"Do they have a Fourth of July in England?"
"Yes...and a fifth, and a sixth..."
Independence Day in the land of the losing side feels strange. No one knows what day it is! But all of the other Americans abroad felt the need to wear some variation of the stars & stripes, or at least red, white, and blue. There were even a couple of "grand ol' flag" capes.
In our architecture class, we walked around the campus of St. John's and learned all about the design of the buildings on campus. We went inside the library, which is FILLED with really old beautiful books. It also houses some old artwork, and a cannonball from the English Civil War, when the school was used as a fortress.
At St. John's, only Fellows are allowed to walk on the grass--unless you are invited on. When looking at some sculptures, our professor walked onto the grass without thinking, while we all just looked at each other awkwardly. And then he told us to join him. We freaked out and took pictures of ourselves near the keep off the grass sign. It may have been the high point of my day...
I forgot my camera this day, so I'll have to take pictures around campus later.
