After Versailles, we had the poor Frenchmen's lunch on the train to Paris: fresh bagettes, brie, and a big bottle of Orangina (wonderful French orange soda...with pulp). It was delicious. And only €2.50 for each of us!
Posters for this movie were all over the metro. SO BUMMED I wouldn't be in Paris to see it.

Our first destination were the Catacombs. But the line was obscene. So instead, here is a picture of the big lion statue by the metro stop.

So we got right back on the metro and headed up to Jardin de Luxembourg. Paris really knows how to make a good public park. They were all incredible. Plus, we happened to be there while a concert band performed, so we had a soundtrack to wandering. They also had some pretty tasty glace pistache (pistachio ice cream). I wasn't even upset that it cost more than my lunch.

Next up--The Pantheon, to see some famous dead people.
Yup, that's his head he's casually setting down.
Saint Louis
Foucault's pendulum, that he used to prove the Earth rotates. Yay science!
Joan of Arc
down to the crypt!
Rousseau
Voltaire
Voltaire again
Marie Curie
Victor Hugo

"Dumbass? 'Dumas.'"

We were running a little low on metro tickets, so we walked up to the Cathedral of Notre Dame.
As soon as I saw it, my mind was overtaken by the soundtrack of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It didn't get out of my head until at least Tuesday.
The detail is incredible--and admission is free!

Beneath the plaza in front of the Cathedral is the Crypt of Notre Dame. No dead people here--just archeological ruins from the early Paris city center.

We then visited the Deportation Memorial. It's eerie. No pictures from this one.

In our attempts to find the metro stop nearby, we got a little lost. But I was glad we did, because we found the famous bridge that couples attach a lock to so they will stay together forever. I didn't even realize it was in Paris!

We found the stop eventually, and headed to the Bastille. Well, not the Bastille, but the monument to it.
***
After a long day, we found a corner café near the Bastille monument and had some
crêpes. I had a three cheese crêpe (one of the cheeses was goat cheese) and a banana & nutella crêpe. YUM.
This place was across the street. I had no idea Indiana had great Tex-Mex food!

Au revoir! It was hectic, but it was definitely worth it. France is awesome. So is the view flying over London at night, despite what my camera wants you to think.
